Days after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Sonu Nigam warns of suicides in music industry

Date:

Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise has opened up a can of worms in the entertainment world. As India struggles hard to come to terms with 34-year-old Sushant’s suicide, leading actors including Kangana Ranaut have come out openly to expose the dark underbelly of the glitzy film industry where star kids get a red carpet welcome and nepotism is the order of the day.

Now, opening up another front pointing to the dark secrets of the music industry, Sonu Nigam has put out a video vlog on his Instagram account with a caption – You might soon hear about suicides in the Music Industry.

Referring to Sushant’s demise and the martyrdom of 20 Indian soldiers at Galwan Valley along the disputed site at the Line of Actual Control, Sonu, with a heavy heart launched a tirade against two leading studios in Bollywood music industry who he says dictate the entry and exit of every singer in the industry. It is they who decide who will sing, who won’t.

There is a bigger mafia in the music industry. Who will sing and who will not is decided by them because they are powerful. It is tough for young kids who are joining the industry to bear the politics and survive in the industry, he said.

In the video he alleged that there was a time when even he and Arijit Singh had to face the same. For 7-8 times it had happened that he was asked to sing a song and later it was dubbed by someone else, Sonu narrated. “If it can happen with me, the newcomers might face worse conditions,” he added..

Sonu also put out an earnest appeal to the media industry to be more kind to younger musicians. He appealed to the entertainment industry to change the way they function and urged them to be more humane and kind.
