COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Monday

With 11,502 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, COVID infections in India on Monday rose to 3,32,424. The country also reported 325 deaths, taking the toll to 9,520.

While 1,69,798 lakh people have recovered, there are 1,53,106 lakh active cases in the country, according to the Ministry of Health.

Here are the top 10 developments in India this Monday:

1. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami Monday announced complete lockdown in four districts – Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur – from June 19 to June 30 following a surge in Covid-19 cases.

2. The ICMR has recommended the use of rapid antigen test kits for diagnosis of Covid-19 in containment zones and healthcare settings in combination with the RT-PCR test.

3. Amid the surge in COVID cases in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said that the government has no plans to impose lockdown in the capital.

4. Ministry of Civil Aviation allows Maharashtra to operate 100 flights daily. Earlier, Maharashtra was allowed only 50 flights (25 arrivals and 25 departures) daily.

5. In Mumbai, Western Railway (WR) resumed its selected suburban services from today only for movement of essential staff as identified by the state government.

6. Kerala has issued orders allowing people to travel to the state for short visits without going into mandatory quarantine subject to a set of conditions prescribed by the government. The order will apply to people travelling to the state for purposes including official, business, medical, court cases, property management etc.

7. 32 more COVID-19 cases reported in Manipur, taking the total number of cases in the state to 490. Number of active cases stands at 339: State Health Department

8. 4450 Shramik Specials run since May 1, over 60 lakh migrants ferried home: Chairman, Railway Board, news agency PTI reported.

9. As many as 156 Indian nationals stranded in Sri Lanka were flown back home on Monday under the third phase of Vande Bharat Mission. So far, over 1,000 Indians have been repatriated from the country since the first phase of the evacuation mission (May 7).

10. 407 more COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths reported in West Bengal today. Total number of cases in the state is now at 11494, death toll 485 deaths: State Health Department
