COVID-19 | Top 10 developments in India this Saturday

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India crossed the 3-lakh mark on Saturday after the country reported the highest single-day spike of 11,458 new cases. With 386 deaths being reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll now reached 8,884.

Here are the top developments in India this Saturday:

1. Maharastra reported 3,427 new cases of COVID-19 and 113 deaths, taking the total number of cases to 1,04,568 and death toll to 3830: State Health Department

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a detailed meeting with senior ministers and officials to review India’s response to COVID-19 pandemic.

3. 517 new positive COVID-19 cases and 33 deaths reported in Gujarat in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 23,079, of which 15,891 are cured/discharged. The death toll is at 1449: State Health Department

4. 77 COVID-19 cases and two deaths reported in Punjab today. The total number of positive cases in the state is now 3063 including 671 active cases and 2327 recovered patients. The death toll stands at 65: Punjab Health Department

5. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan will meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Sunday to review the coronavirus situation in Delhi.

6. Union Health Ministry on Saturday added loss of smell and taste among the symptoms of Covid-19 while remdesivir, tocilizumab and plasma therapy are new additions to the list of investigational therapies for the disease.

7. With 1,989 fresh COVID-19 cases today, a total of 42,687 people have tested positive in Tamil Nadu till date. With 30 deaths today, the toll rose to 397. A total of 1,362 persons got discharged, there are 18,878 cases still active.

8. Delhi government has restarted the RT-PCR testing for COVID-19 at Sir Ganga Ram hospital. The lab services at the hospital were suspended on June 3.

9. Haryana Government has decided to conduct examinations of students studying in final year in the universities, colleges and technical education institutions of the state from July 1 to 31, 2020. The results of these exams will be declared by August 7, 2020.

10. 64 more COVID-19 cases reported in Manipur in the last 24 hours. State tally rises to 449, of which 358 are active cases and 91 have recovered/discharged: State Government
