India on Tuesday reported a rise of 9,987 coronavirus cases in last 24 hours, highest single-day spike ever, taking the nationwide toll to 2,66,598, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
According to the Health Ministry, 331 fatalities were reported during the same period, taking the death toll 7,466.

The Health Minister said that there are 1,29,917 active coronavirus cases in India while 1,29,215 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals, taking the recovery rate to 48.46 per cent.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state in India with 88,528 COVID-19 cases and 3,169 deaths while Tamil Nadu is second the list with 33,229 cases and 286 fatalities. The national capital Delhi has reported 29,943 cases and 874 deaths while Gujarat has reported 20,545 cases and 1,280 fatalities.
