Date:

A picture is widely being shared on the internet which shows a screengrab of a bulletin by a Hindi news channel, Aaj Tak.

In the screengrab, it is being claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that 41 crore people have received Rs 53 crores in their bank accounts. In the caption of the post, the statement is being ridiculed that Amit Shah sent Rs 53 crore to the account of 41 crore people, that means each person got Rs 1.29.

The caption of the picture read: ‘Amit Shah sent Rs 53 crore to the account of 41 crore people, that means each person got Rs 1.29. If Lollipop is not available for 1 rupee, you will get ration from where?‘.

 FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found that the statement was not made by Amit Shah.

We found that the screengrab is taken from Aaj Tak’s bulletin dated May 30, 2020. The full program can be seen here.

In the program, Shah can be heard saying Rs 53,000 crores has been transferred to the accounts of 41 crore people at 16:37 minutes.

After the channel realised their mistake, they issued the correction on Facebook regarding the gaffe made while telecasting the program.

“CORRECTION: In #AgendaAajTak, Home Minister Amit Shah said, Rs 53,000 crore was added to 41 crore accounts but Aaj Tak accidentally showed ‘Rs 53 crore was added to 41 crore accounts,” the post read. (Translated from Hindi)

Hence, the above information proves that Amit Shah did not say 41 crore people have received Rs 53 crores in their bank accounts.
