COVID-19 | India records yet another biggest single-day spike of nearly 10k cases, 273 deaths

India, on Friday, registered its highest spike yet again in COVID-19 cases with 9,851 more cases and 273 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. This is also the highest number of deaths reported in 24 hours till date.

The total number of cases in India has now reached 2,26,770 including 1,10,960 active cases, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Ministry informed that 1,09,462 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated while 6,348 people have succumbed to the disease so far.

India, on Monday, became the 7th worst-hit nation with the COVID-19 pandemic, overtaking France and Germany.

Maharashtra has so far reported 77,793 cases- more than any other state in the country- while the total number of active cases in the state stands at 41,402.

In Tamil Nadu, 27,256 cases have been detected so far while Delhi has reported 25,004 coronavirus cases.

The increase in the number of cases in the country comes after the government gave considerable relaxations to the people in the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown followed by the measures for Unlock 1.0.

Moreover, India has ramped up testing to detect COVID-19 cases in the country. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 43,86,379 samples have been tested as on Jun 5, 2020, 9 AM. The number of samples tested in 24 hours is 1,43,661.
