Following massive protests in the US over the death of a 46-year old African-American man, George Floyd, a picture is being circulated online claiming to be from one of the protests.
(Translation: In America, people have stormed out on the streets. Trump wanted to destroy the public by using Corona a weapon and he got trapped in his own web. His friend in India is crying and calling out to his ‘brothers and sisters’ and betraying the opportunity)
At the time of filing the report, the above post had more than 1,000 shares on Facebook.
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral image and found the claim to be false.
We put the image through Reverse Image Search and found the same image in an article published in The Guardian on February 18, 2017.
” Protesters in Barcelona urge Spain to take in more refugees, ” the headline of the article read. The guardian credited the picture to Associated Press (AP)
We found the same picture on AP Images too. According to the caption, the picture was taken in Feb 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.
“Thousands of people march to demand Spain’s government to increase its efforts to take in refugees who have fled the war in Syria and other violent conflicts in Barcelona, Spain, Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017. Spain has taken in just 1,100 refugees of the over 17,000 it has pledged to accept. Banner reads in Catalan: “Enough Excuses! Take Them In Now!”. (AP Photo/Manu Fernandez)” the caption read.
The above information proves that the picture in circulation is NOT related to the recent protests in the US. Hence, the claim is false.
