Gaitri Kumar, a 1986 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service has been appointed as the next High Commissioner to United Kingdom.
She is presently serving as the Indian Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
Considered to be an expert on European affairs, Gaitri Kumar has previously served in various capacities in different European cities such as Lisbon and Geneva, and as the Deputy Ambassador in Paris.

A graduate from Bangalore University, Kumar has also served as the Joint/Additional Secretary to the President of India.
In recent times, relations between India and Britain have expanded into new frontiers and the two countries are collaborating in renewable energy and other scientific areas.
However, the Indian High Commission in London has been an object of frequent attacks by Pakistan- sponsored goons. UK is one country India will seek to expand its tie with, especially in the post-Brexit era.
