Family dispute in UP given false communal angle in this claim; here’s the fact check

Date:

A shocking video of six men beating up a woman is widely being shared on the internet with a claim that the video shows how Muslims are oppressed in India.

The caption of the video read: “Muslims are oppressed in India and will continue to be oppressed if we do not protect them. It’s time to be unity. The Indian government will account! #ModiResignation”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be fake.

We found a tweet in which Balrampur Police has posted a video on Twitter explaining the whole incident. In the tweet, Balrampur Superintendent of Police, Dev Ranjan Verma, clarifies that the incident took place in Rehra Bazar where a woman was beaten up severely by her husband, two brothers-in-law and her three nephews.

According to the video,  four accused have been arrested. Whereas the police personnel present at the spot are suspended because of inaction.

We also found that the same incident has been covered by Amar Ujala on May 22, 2020.

As per the report, there was a property dispute between the man, Ashok and his wife, Sushila.

Hence, the above information proves that a family dispute has been given a false communal twist.
