COVID-19 | Trump attacks Jinping as war of words over the virus escalates

Date:

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday directly attacked and blamed Chinese President Xi Jinping over the mishandling of the deadly Sars-COV-2 virus.

He said that there is a propaganda war that is being waged and it is being done right from the top of the Chinese leadership.

In a series of tweets, he accused the Chinese President of leading a propaganda war against the US and Europe.

Previously, Trump and the Republicans have continued to blame China for its acts of negligence and omissions. They had, so far, steered clear of directly accusing President Xi Jinping.

However, as the US economy crumbles and the Presidential elections approach, the Trump administration has been criticized for their handling of the entire matter which was initially dismissed as a “small flu”.

Trump also used this opportunity to hit out at his potential Presidential rival and leading Democratic party candidate, Joe Biden.

He alleged that the Chinese were hoping that Biden wins the elections and then they could resume the activities which were against the US interests.

It was in this context that the US State Department said that the sale of 18 torpedoes to Taiwan had been approved by the US authorities.

President Trump also said that the annual G-7 summit will be held in person and not over a digital conference later in June. He termed this as a solidarity meeting and a fight against COVID-19.
