As Lockdown 3.0 commenced in India today, long queues could be found outside standalone liquor shops in many southern states as well.
Here are the developments from the southern part of the country:
1. Many liquor shops in Bengaluru had to shut early due to an inadequate supply of alcohol and long queues that were reported across the city. Standalone alcohol shops are permitted to remain open in the state, across all zones from 7 am to 7 pm.
2. The Andhra Pradesh excise department has enforced a steep hike of 25% for all alcoholic beverages in the state.

3. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that the state has reported zero cases on Monday. However, the state of Andhra Pradesh reported 67 fresh cases.
4. To facilitate the return of residents of Kerala from other states, the state has opened six inter-state points for the same. These points are located in Palakkad, Kasaragod and Idukki districts of the state.
5. Karnataka has now extended free bus services for all migrants in the state up to May 7. The state government had earlier rescinded the order which forced the migrants to pay exorbitant amounts to return to their villages.
6. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited faced the wrath of its workers who protested against non-payment of salaries and basic amenities. They briefly clashed with the Police which led to disturbance in the law and order situation.
7. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has launched an online survey to gauge the impact of the people to assess the impact of the lockdown and restrictions.
8. Tamil Nadu has crossed the 3000 mark and the total number of COVID-19 cases has now reached 3023. The city of Chennai has reported over 200 cases.
9. The Kurnool district administration has launched a digital board scheme to educate the people regarding the virus.
