Fact Check: Did Brahma Kamal bloom after centuries due to lockdown? Here’s the truth

The lockdown being witnessed across the globe has proved to be a boon for mother nature, with pollution levels falling drastically and flora and fauna getting rejuvenated.

A video post is doing the rounds on different social media platforms in which a Bharma Kamal (Saussurea Obvallata) can be seen, claiming that the flowers have bloomed after years due to less pollution as a result of the national lockdown to contain Coronavirus.

The caption of the video read: “यह अनहोनी घटना सदियों बाद हुई है।

(Google translation: This wonderful incident has occurred after centuries. The rare Brahma Kamal, whose vision can lead to the attainment of virtue, have bloomed in Devbhoomi Uttrakahnd during the lockdown, as the pollution is low.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above video and found that the claim attached to the video is false as the video is old.

We extracted keyframes of the video and after putting them through Reverse Image Search, we found the same video on YouTube which was uploaded on December 10, 2017.

In conclusion, it is clear that the video in question is old.

While NewsMobile could not independently verify the origin of the video, it is certain that this video was NOT shot during the lockdown.
