Fact Check: The doctor in the photo did not die of Coronavirus; here’s the truth

Date:

A picture is widely being shared on different social media platforms claiming that a resident of Mumbai Dr. Maneesha Patel has died of Coronavirus in the line of duty.

The caption of the picture read: “#अत्यंत #दुःखद
😔😔

(Translation- Mumbai’s Corona warrior Dr. Maneesha Patel died today serving the nation)

FACT CHECK

When the team at NewsMobile did a fact check, we found that the claim is fake.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we came across a tweet by the woman in the viral picture herself, Dr. Richa Rajpoot. She posted the same picture along with an explanatory video on April 26, 2020.

(Translation- I am still alive. The news of my death has become very viral on Facebook and Twitter. It’s funny but I’m also scared that people might lynch me thinking I’m a ghost…many people have died becasue of these rumours)

In the video, she assures that she’s doing well and explaines that she is not treating coronavirus patients but is voluntarily helping out healthcare workers during the pandemic. She also said that she is a BJP member in Uttar Pradesh and a social worker.

The above information proves that the woman in the picture is not Dr. Maneesha Patel but Dr. Richa Rajpoot and she’s not dead.
