Did an American CEO redesign India’s map to compare its size to other nations fighting COVID-19? Here’s the truth

Date:

A map of India is being circulated online with a claim that it has been redesigned by an American CEO to explain to his employees how India is indirectly handling the COVID-19 crisis of many countries (in terms of population).

”This is Indian map redesigned by an American CEO where he marked the Indian states population which is almost equal to population of some of the countries. He tried to explain to his employees that India is indirectly handling COVID-19 situation of so many countries. It’s about the management of the problem in an efficient manner.” the post read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that the map is old.

On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found that the same map has been tweeted in 2016.

Erik Solheim, Norwegian diplomat and former politician shared the photo on 29 April 2016 with a caption: “India population now at 1250 mill. Look at this map – India is not just another country – it’s enormous!”

Replying to a tweet, Solheim also clarified that the map is meant to show a comparison based on population size.

We also ran a search using relevant keywords to check if there’s an American CEO who has drafted such a map, but we did not find any credible report to support the claim.

NewsMobile independently couldn’t verify the origin of the map but it can be safely said that the map is not related to the COVID-19 crisis.
