COVID-19: India has supplied Hydroxychloroquine to 55 countries so far

India has provided supplies of the anti-malarial drug ‘hydroxychloroquine’ to 55 nations around the world to deal with the situation emanating from COVID-19.

The drug considered to be a life saver has been supplied to countries such as the US and those in the neighbourhood like Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Afghanistan amongst others, sources said.

In the extended neighbourhood, these nations include the UAE and Oman.

Ministry of External Affairs sources further said that 6.5 lakh testing kits from China will be arriving in India by Thursday. This includes: rapid anti-body testing kits (3 lakhs from Guangzhou Wondfo and 2.5 Lakhs from Zhuhai Livzon) and RNA Extraction kits (1 lakh from MGI Shenzen).

Testing kits from other nations such as South Korea are being procured and are expected to help in tiding over the lack of testing infrastructure, sources added.

Sources further said that sufficient resources are on the way for India to meet its requirements to combat COVID-19.
