India imposed Janata Curfew on March 22 and a 21-day national lockdown on March 25. This single measure is now proving to be extremely critical in India’s fight against Covid-19.
Health Ministry’s Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal today said that as per a “statistical rate of growth-based analysis”, the cases in India would have really surged if lockdown had not been put in places.
Here are the numbers:
How Lockdown and containment measures have helped India rein in Covid-19:
• Had no measures been taken, India would have witnessed 2 lakh cases by April 15 at a cumulative growth rate of 41 percent.
• Before lockdown, highest growth rate of cases recorded was 28.9 percent. At that rate India would have seen 2 lakh cases by April 15.
• After lockdown and containment measures, cases have come down. Today India has 7,447 cases, but had lockdown not been implemented, India would have seen 45,000 cases by now.
