As the COVID-19 disease spreads globally, celebrities are doing their part to help in whatever best way they can.
Amid the pandemic, the Bollywood stars have been using their platforms to spread awareness, whether it’s by sharing videos of themselves washing their hands or advising fans to stay home and practice social distancing. Other celebrities are donating money to various organizations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced the the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund, which is an effort for India’s fight against COVID-19.
Several personalities from the field of sports, entertainment, education, business, philanthropy to a common man have made their contributions to bring the much-needed relief to those struggling to cope with the crisis.

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, on Saturday, pledged to donate Rs 25 crore in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The actor took to Twitter to make the announcement and also urged people to do their bit in the fight to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

Celebrity-favourite designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee on Saturday pledged to donate Rs 10 million (Rs 1 crore) from her personal funds to the PM’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) and Rs 5 million (Rs 5 lakh) to the Chief Minister of West Bengal’s Relief Fund to help the battle against coronavirus.

Actor Hrithik Roshan was one of the first celebrities to step up for those in need and make a significant contribution to help fight the crisis. When the number of coronavirus cases in India had crossed the 600-mark, Roshan had sent out a tweet, announcing that he had procured N95 and FFP3 masks for the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) workers and other caretakers.

Hema Malini who is also the BJP MP from Mathura, released an amount of Rs 1 crore from the MPLADS (Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) funds for countering the virus.

Actor-politician Sunny Deol, who is known for his popular roles in films like ‘Gadar- Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’, announced a donation of Rs 50 lakh from his MPLADS fund.

South mega-star Rajinikanth came to the rescue of those worst hit by the pandemic, by donating Rs 50 lakh to the daily wage workers of the South film industry.
Comedian Kapil Sharma, too, stood up for the nation and donated a sum of Rs 50 lakh to the Prime Minister Relief Fund to help fight coronavirus in the country.

While India has PM-CARES Funds to fight against the deadly disease, Hollywood stars have also made donations to their respective states in whatever way they could.

Angelina Jolie, donated USD 1 million to aid relief efforts amid the coronavirus pandemic. Jolie is contributing to the ‘No Kid Hungry’ organisation to keep underprivileged children from going hungry during the COVID-19 outbreak.
