COVID-19: UK PM Boris Johnson tests positive; self-isolates

Britain’s Prime Minster Boris Johnson today confirmed that he had tested positive for coronavirus and is self-isolating.

In a video posted on Twitter, Johnson said, “Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus. I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this.”

UK has so far reported over 11,800 Covid-19 positive cases and 578 deaths due to the virus.

This has now been confirmed by the Downing Street. In a statement issued by a Spokeswoman, she said:

“ After experiencing mild symptoms yesterday, the Prime Minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty. The test was carried out at in No 10 by NHS staff and the result of the test was positive. ”

In keeping with the guidance, the Prime Minsiter is self-isolating in Downing Street. He is continuing to lead the Government’s response to Coronavirus “

Johnson is self-isolating at 10, Downing Street after being tested there by the NHS staff.

The UK PM was seen clapping outside his official residence Thursday night as part of a nationwide gesture to thank the country’s healthcare personnel.

Johnson’s testing positive for Covid-19 comes after the Prince Charles had also tested positive for the virus earlier this week.
