In the coming week, India and the world will have to face certain challenges. India will be affected by both bilateral and multilateral visits.
Here are some of the events that can be expected this week,
1. Indian Foreign policy
The President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will be on a state visit to India from Feb 13-16.
He will be meeting the Prime Minister, President of India and the Vice President apart from visiting the states of Goa and Maharashtra.
Another important visit that can be expected is that of the Vice President of Vietnam Nguyen Luong Bang who will also be paying an official visit to India from Feb 11-13th. He will hold meetings with the Vice President of India and call on the President. He will also pay a visit to Bodh Gaya in Bihar before leaving for Vietnam.
2. Coronavirus
The virus which started to spread from Wuhan in China, since December 2019, has already claimed more than 900 lives and has affected more than 40,000 people globally.
There is no end to the spread of this viral disease. The World Health Organization has stated that they are monitoring the situation closely.
India recently evacuated more than 625 of its own citizens and students from Maldives from Wuhan. India will play a greater role in the containment of this virus that is spreading far.
3. American Politics
US President Donald Trump, survived an impeachment motion last week in the US senate. He will hope to use this as an opportunity to secure a second term, even as the Democrats are seen to be obstructionists to the ‘glory of America’.
This will be in addition to the fact that the US economy has improved and is doing well.
4. Unrest in the land of pure
Pakistani authorities, who are in the habit of lecturing India on alleged human rights violations have failed to tackle the issue of young girls belonging to the minority communities being kidnapped, sexually assaulted and forcibly converted. The state seems to patronize these criminals with scant regard for human rights.
Last week, the Pakistani state also arrested Mansoor Pashteen, the leader of the PTM movement. This has been condemned globally and there are calls for his release.
5. Rise in temperatures in the Antarctic region
It has been reported that last week, the region witnessed its highest temperature and this has caused concerns of enhanced climate change crisis. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has said in a report.
This week will be critical as experts, scientists and others will decode strategies related to this issue.
