The first lady of Lesotho Maesaiah Thabane was produced in a court on Wednesday in the capital city of Maseru and charged with the offence of murder. She has been accused of murdering Lipoleno Thabane, the ex-wife of former Prime Minister Thomas Thabane. She has been remanded to custody for further investigation.
She had surrendered to the police on Tuesday near the South African border.
Lipeleno Thabane was shot dead outside her residence, two days before the Prime Minister Thomas Thabane assumed office in June 2017.

The first lady has also been charged for the offence of attempt to murder. A woman who was with the former first lady when she was murdered, had a narrow escape when she was shot at.
The police summoned the first lady for questioning regarding this murder case and when she avoided the summons, she became a suspect.
It was only last week that the Prime Minister was forced to resigned by the ruling party. He has announced his intention to resign but hasn’t indicated a date.
This murder case has shocked the nation that is landlocked and surrounded by South Africa on all three sides.
