Delhi polls: BJP releases its manifesto, promises clean tap water, cheap wheat flour

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched its manifesto for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Prakash Javedkar and Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and other senior BJP leaders were present during the launch. The party said its top priority is tackling air and water pollution.

Launching an attack at the ruling AAP, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said: “Half of the ministers and MLAs in the current government are either on bail or are facing charges. We will change this scenario.”

“The BJP, if voted to power, will create a Colony Development Board, for regularisation of societies,” he further said.

Key highlights from the manifesto:  

  • Aata (wheat flour) will be provided to poor families at a subsidized rate of Rs 2 per kilogram through the Public Distribution System.

 

  • Modern amenities and ownership rights: The important issue of NOCs for self-allotment societies will be resolved on priority.

 

  • The government will formulate a scheme to encourage and provide financial assistance cycle rickshaw pullers to switch to e-Rickshaws.

 

  • Resolve of Jal Jeevan: To liberate Delhi from its dependency on tankers for drinking water, and to provide clean tap water.

  • For infrastructure, it has promised an expense of Rs 10,000 crore.

 

  • Guaranteed Rs 2 lakh to each poor girl child at the time of her birth, electric scooter for poor girls going to college.

 

  • Rs 51,000 for poor widows for their daughter’s marriage, the manifesto also promises a free bicycle for class 9 girl students.

 

  • To turn lease hold property of traders in Delhi into freehold within a year of coming into power.

 

  • Focus on rural and agricultural development: Individuals engaged in occupation, like potters, barbers, blacksmiths etc., will be provided easy loans at favourable rates.

 

  • At least 10 lakh jobs for the unemployed, Rani Laxmi Bai scheme for the women safety, new regulations for street vendors and a job guarantee for contractual employees.
