Air India’s special flight for evacuation of Indians to depart for Wuhan today

Amid the deadly Coronavirus outbreak in China, Air India will, on Friday, depart from Delhi to Wuhan for the evacuation of Indians trapped in the region.

“A special flight will depart today from Delhi for Wuhan (China) for the evacuation of Indians,” Air India spokesperson said on Friday.

“At least 400 Indians will be evacuated today from Wuhan in China by Air India flight. It will take off at 12 pm today and will return by 2 am tomorrow. Further arrangements will be done by MEA and Health Ministry for passengers after they reach India”, Ashwani Lohani, CMD, Air India said.

India confirmed its first case of Coronavirus from Kerala and the patient was on Friday shifted from Thrissur General Hospital to the isolation ward of Thrissur Medical College.

Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja said that the patient’s condition is stable.

“The patient who had returned from Wuhan (China) and had tested positive for coronavirus is stable. She will be shifted to Thrissur Medical College from Thrissur General Hospital today,” said the Health Minister who also held a high-level meeting at Thrissur Medical College earlier in the day.

“Another person has been admitted to Thrissur General Hospital with symptoms of coronavirus. 15 persons are under surveillance in the State. Of these, nine are in isolation wards and the rest are being monitored at home,” she added.

The Central government has also issued a travel advisory, asking people to refrain from traveling to China.

The first case of coronavirus was reported in Wuhan city of China in December and since then the virus has spread in most parts of the world.

In China, the death toll from the deadly mounted to 213 with 9,356 people tested positive with the disease.

China has imposed quarantine and travel restrictions, affecting the movement of 56 million people in more than a dozen cities, amid fears that the transmission rate will accelerate as hundreds of millions of Chinese travel for the Lunar New Year.
