Fake Alert! PM Modi’s wife Jashodaben did not give this statement

Date:

A picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s estranged wife Jashodaben is doing rounds on social media in which she can be seen holding a placard that reads in Hindi “if my husband was never faithful to me then how can he be faithful towards you or the people of this country? Is this women empowerment?”

The text on the placard read: “जब मेरे पति मेरे ना हो सके तो आपके या देशवासियों के कैसे हो सकेगा
क्या यही है महिला सशक्तिकरण..?”

At the time of filing this report, the above post was shared by over 15,000 Facebook users.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile came across the post, we fact-checked it and found that it is FAKE.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found the original picture in which Jashodaben was holding a document and not a placard.

The picture was taken in February 2016 when Jashodaben’s passport application was returned by the regional officer in Gujarat for not presenting the marriage certificate and she had filed an RTI. The document in her hand is the copy of the RTI she had filed.

The above information proves that the viral picture has been edited using editing software and hence it is fake.
