BJP leader Kapil Mishra gets notice over ‘India vs Pakistan’ tweet

Date:

The Returning Officer (RO) on Friday issued notice to BJP candidate Kapil Mishra over his ‘India vs Pakistan’ tweet on Delhi Assembly elections, news agency ANI reported.

Earlier, the Election Commission sought a report from the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Mishra’s tweet. On January 23, Mishra had tweeted that the Delhi assembly elections on February 8 will be a contest between India and Pakistan.

Reacting to the development, Mishra today said: “I received a notice from Election Commission last night, I will give my reply today. I don’t think I said anything wrong. Speaking truth is not a crime in this country. I spoke the truth. I stand by my statement.”

He also claimed that the protest against citizenship law in Shaheen Bagh is Pakistan sponsored.

“Pakistan has entered Shaheen Bagh. Mini Pakistans are being created in Delhi. The Indian law is not followed in areas like Shaheen Bagh, Chand Bagh and Inderlok. Pakistani hooligans have captured the streets of Delhi,” Mishra said in his tweet posted in Hindi on Thursday.

Mishra also said that mini Pakistans are being created in Delhi by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress and that these seditious people will get an answer from patriotic Indians on February 8.

“AAP and Congress have created these mini-Pakistans, like the one in Shaheen Bagh. They will get the answer from India on February 8. Whenever seditious people create a Pakistan in India, they will come face-to-face with patriotic Indians,” Mishra said.

A former AAP MLA, Mishra was removed as a minister by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in 2017. In 2019, he was also disqualified as AAP lawmaker under the anti-defection law. Subsequently, he joined the BJP in August.

Mishra is a BJP candidate in the upcoming assembly elections from Model Town in north Delhi. Polling will be held in the national capital on February 8 and the results will be announced on February 11.
