Fact Check: This ‘2019’ picture of deforestation in ‘Amazonia’ is actually from 2004

A picture collage is being shared online with one picture showing the Amazonia of 2009 while text on other says 2019. The picture showcases the deforestation that happened in the Amazon forest over the last decade.

 

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the picture and found that the picture used under 2019 is actually from 2004.

The image on the right

On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found an article by The Guardian from 2009 featuring this same image.

We found the original image on the website of the Associated Press (AP) picture archive.

When we looked for the picture on the left side, we found the image on a stock photo website. It was taken by Gustavo Frazao, however, the year in which the picture was taken is not mentioned.
