Karnataka bats on the front foot to improve its Ease of doing business

Date:

In a bid to improve its ranking on the Ease of Doing Business index, the Karnataka state government has set out to reform the Udyog Mitra portal, a single window clearance mechanism for all business-related permits. The reformed portal will be rolled out in March.

Amongst the various changes being initiated, the number of departments on the portal is being increased from 10 to 38 and over time, many more departments are expected to be added.

Also, the Digilocker and the Sakhala portal has been integrated with the portal. This will permit the various departments to automatically access any additional documents that may be needed, display information related to physical verification and much more.

Any delay in the clearance of a proposal will be brought to the attention of the head of department who can then raise the issue with the concerned line officer.

This will also help in easily obtaining the No Objection Certificates (NOC) which has been considered to be especially cumbersome for business entities operating out of the city.

The state government has been holding extensive meetings with officials from the water and sewerage department, fire services, labour and industries to improve its ranking on the Ease of Doing Business index.

The World Bank till date only considered data from New Delhi and Mumbai to decide on India’s ranking on the index. However, starting from this year, Bengaluru and Kolkata have been added to the list.
