Rajnath Singh reprimands BJP MPs, says PM Modi dissatisfied with absenteeism

Date:

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told BJP parliamentarians on Tuesday that PM Narendra Modi was unhappy with many Bharatiya Janata Party MPs for skipping Parliament sittings. This isn’t the first time when the prime minister has shown his disdain for absenteeism. In the past too, PM Modi has repeatedly cautioned his party members to take their job more seriously.

“Prime Minister has spoken time and again about the lack of discipline among MPs when it comes to attending Parliament,” Singh told lawmakers at the weekly meeting of the BJP parliamentary party.
The senior leader also mentioned that the Prime Minister is “dissatisfied that situation hasn’t changed despite his repeated advice”.

The last meeting was in July this year when PM Modi had severely reprimanded them. He had asked the members “how would you feel, if I or Amit Shah promised to attend a public meeting in their constituency but never turned up”.

The Defence Minister also reminded lawmakers about the politically-crucial bills that are still to come up for discussion in the parliament. “Several important bills will be taken up in the coming days and all of you need to remain present in the house,” the senior minister said.
He also urged them to be present when Home Minister Amit Shah tables the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and called it as important as the move to abrogate Article 370.
