Uddhav is consensus candidate for CM post: Sharad Pawar after Sena-NCP-Cong meet

Date:

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will lead the Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress alliance that will stake claim to form Maharashtra’s next government, NCP chief Sharad Pawar said on Friday.

Pawar also said that Thackeray is the consensus candidate for the post of Maharashtra Chief Minister. He, however, said more talks will continue on Saturday.

“Uddhav Thackeray’s name for CM was also discussed in the meeting, more talks will continue tomorrow,” Pawar said.

The announcement came after a rare meeting between after Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress leaders at Mumbai’s Nehru Centre.

The three parties — Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena — will hold a press conference on Saturday, Pawar said after the meeting. “Tomorrow a press conference will be held by the three parties. Discussions are continuing. Tomorrow we will also decide when to approach the Governor,” he said.

Maharashtra was placed under President’s Rule last week after no party could produce letters of support to prove their majority.
