Flights to seven new destinations announced from KIA, Bengaluru this winter

Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), operators of the Kempe Gowda International Airport have released the winter schedule for 2019. Seven new flights have been introduced (five domestic and 2 international routes).

The new international routes will include Addis Ababa (capital of Ethiopia), Amsterdam (capital of Netherlands).

The domestic routes include Jaisalmer (Rajasthan), Jharsuguda (Odisha), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu) and Bidar (Karnataka).

With this introduction it is expected that the average international Air Traffic Movements (ATM) for winter 2019-20 is expected to grow at 12% over summer 2019, while domestic ATM will grow by 16%. The overall growth forecast will be around 16% for the coming season.

Bengaluru will be third city after New Delhi and Mumbai to be directly connected to the Ethiopian capital, even as the two countries forge a stronger partnership and hope that Bengaluru will provide the much-needed IT expertise to transform the East African nation.

The Royal KLM airlines already operates 3 weekly flights from the city.

Kempe Gowda International Airport hopes to become the gateway to India in the near future.
