On 26th October, the US military had carried out a raid on a compound located in Idlib province of North-Western Syria and killed the ISIS chief. President Trump had said that the ISIS chief was chased down a tunnel where he had no where to escape and he then blew himself up, dying on the spot.
The US did not sustain any causalities. A K9 was injured and is back in duty now.
A leading US publication has now revealed the key intelligence was provided by a close confidante of the ISIS chief and a former fighter of the terror organization.

The mole whose identity is yet to be revealed was said to have helped the ISIS chief move around Syria safely and also helped in the construction of the compound that had been his last residence. The compound had been stormed by troops belonging to the elite US Delta Force (a Special Force) and the 75th Rangers Regiment.
He was an active member of the Islamic State group operating out of Iraq and Syria before being recruited as a mole.
Initially, he had been recruited as a mole by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who was then handed over to the US government who were reluctant and carried out continuous assessments before letting him join their ranks.
It is believed that he is an Arab Sunni Muslim and his motivation to betray the ISIS chief was after the possible death of a family member at the hands of the ISIS.
He was a part of the US team that raided the compound and had given the US forces a detailed map of the compound including a layout of its rooms. He even went out to point out and confirm that it was indeed Baghdadi who had been killed after he chief activated his suicide vest and blew himself up.
The mole had informed the US forces that the ISIS chief always wore the suicide vest.
His family and him were rescued two days after the rain and are now in complete safety now. He will be getting the entire or part of the US $25 Million bounty that had been announced on Baghdadi’s head.
