Election Commission officials and state police have seized Rs 63,09,000 suspected cash from two different places in Mumbai. The cash was recovered during a search operation.

This incident comes at a time when the Maharashtra Assembly elections are just around the corner. Officials seized Rs 58.58 lakh from Mumbai’s Byculla area from an SUV on Thursday evening and Rs 4.51 lakh from Dharavi on Friday.

The cash has been kept with the police and income-tax officials were being informed. Since the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in the state, the I-T department has recovered Rs 4 crore worth of unaccounted cash from across Mumbai till October 1.
Polling in Maharashtra will be held on October 21 along with Haryana and counting will take place on October 24.
