Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the United Nations General Assembly on its 74th session today focused on key issues. Some of the important take aways from the Prime Minister’s speech are:
1. Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birth Anniversary-
His message of Ahimsa and Tolerance is relevant in today’s world.

2. Development Agenda –
The Prime Minister highlighted the various development issues tackled by the government in the last five years.
 11 crore toilets have been built. Sanitation coverage has been increased from 48% to 99% as of August 2019. Swacch Bharat Abhiyan has been a massive success.
 Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Scheme has benefited more than 50 crore people.
 Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has brought the entire country under the ambit of the banking system. Financial inclusion is a success.
 Digital Identity Program or the Aadhar Bio Metric program has been a success with almost 1.3 billion people enrolling for it. This has saved the exchequer US $20 Billion.

3. Upcoming Development Agenda-
Next five years, India will be seeing,
 The phasing out of single use plastic.
 1.5 crore households getting water connections.
 1.5 lakh kilo metres rural road connectivity under the PM Gram Sadak Yojana.
 2 crore new houses to be built by 2022.
 India will eliminate TB by 2025.

Though these efforts are being taken for India’s benefit, the world will benefit by learning from the Indian experience. Belief in Sabka sath, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Vishwas.

4. Environment and Climate Change-
 India’s per capita emission is less but we are a world leader in combating the issue of Global warming.
 Aiming to have 450 GW of renewable energy.
 Launched the International Solar Alliance in partnership with France.
 Appeal to nations to join the recently launched COALITION FOR DISASTER RESILIENT INFRASTRUCTURE.

5. Peacekeeping operations-
In terms of sacrifices for world peace, India tops the list. India has not contributed to war, but has contributed to world development by its intelligence.

6. Issue of Terrorism-
This issue doesn’t affect only one nation but the entire world. It is important to remain united and fight this issue together.

7. Multi-lateralism-
New technologies have changed the face of this world and has impacted all sectors and dimensions of life. Being united will help us to deal with this.
