In a video that has gone viral on social media, a passport officer in Ghaziabad allegedly abused and beat up an applicant after an argument over the validity of documents kept in DigiLocker.
DigiLocker is an online bank for issuance and verification of documents initiated by the Government of India.
Anmol Jain, the applicant, was at the Regional Passport Office in Ghaziabad to apply for renewal of his passport. However, an altercation broke out with the Assistant Passport Officer over the validity of documents provided through the government’s DigiLocker service.
Subsequently, the altercation snowballed into an ugly fight, where the officer purportedly abused and beat up Jain.

Anmol Jain, resident of Bulandshahr, then posted the video on his Twitter handle, saying: “This is APO of Passport Seva Kendra PSK Ghaziabad behaves. He beat me and made me bleed because I was arguing digilocker’s validity. If this is New India, no one shpuld live in it. (sic)”

The passport officer insisted that the applicant should present original documents if he wanted his passport to be renewed, but Anmol showed inability saying his documents were stolen.
