Fact Checked: This picture is not of the ‘terrorists’ arrested from Allahabad university

Date:

A picture is doing rounds on social media in which a group of people can be seen outside a police station.

The text accompanying the post claims that 25 non-Muslim people were caught making bombs in the hostel of Allahabad university.

“आतंकवाद का नया अड्डा इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय हाॅस्टल 25 छात्र बम बनाते पकड़े
58 कमरे सील मीडिया खामोश
क्योंकि एक भी मुस्लिम नाम नही” the text read.

(Translation- New place of terrorism- Allahabad university hostel. 25 students caught making bomb, 58 room sealed and media is still silent because none of them are Muslim)

FACT CHECK

When the fact-checkers at NewsMobile did a fact-check, we found that the claim is fake.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found the original picture in an article by mandsaursandeshnewspaper dated July 14, 2019.

In the article, it has been mentioned that 15 men and 8 women were arrested for running a sex racket.

On further investigation, we found several media reports stating that in April 2019 police recovered crude bombs and raw material after a raid in Allahabad University hostels.

According to the reports dated April 18, 2019, the Uttar Pradesh Police recovered crude bomb-making materials, a fake pistol and several empty liquor bottles during searches at Tarachand and PC Banerjee hostels of the Allahabad University.

The reports also states that  58 rooms were sealed in Tarachand Hostel and 43 rooms were sealed in  PC Bannerjee Hostel.

This proves that the though some of the information in the claim is correct, the picture shared in the post is from a different news report and the two are not related.

This proves that the post being shared is misleading.
