Kabul: A powerful explosion rocked the city of Kabul on Monday sending smoke billowing from the Afghan capital’s downtown area near the US Embassy.
At least 68 people were wounded in the explosion.
“At least 68 people were wounded in Kabul explosion based on initial reports,” Public Health Ministry’s spokesman Wahidullah Mayar said.
According to the reports, the explosion occurred early on Monday as the streets in the capital were packed with morning commuters.
Witnesses told local reporters that the sound shook their building in the diplomatic area of Kabul.
Reportedly, Kabul’s chief police spokesman, Firdous Faramaz, could only confirm the explosion but was unclear on the target or the type of explosive device.
