Triple murder in Vasant Vihar: Police solve case

Date:

According to latest reports, the Delhi Police claim to have solved the triple murder case that took place on Sunday, June 23, in the South Delhi locality of Vasant Vihar, by arresting a woman and her friend.

Rajiv Ranjan, Additional commissioner of police confirmed the arrests, claiming that the murders were committed for robbery. The arrested woman is the daughter of a friend of the elderly couple murdered in the case. According to police reports, the other accused is said to be the woman’s live-in partner.

According to sources, the woman has confessed to the crime.

The investigating team found several clues leading to the culprits, greatly based on CCTV footage. The two accused were seen on a bike, with their faces covered, riding away from the building at about 2:30 am on Sunday. The number plates on the bike could not be spotted on camera, and the same bike was seen a day before in the same location over footage.

The police had earlier released a statement of investigation that ruled out robbery as an alleged motive for the triple murders.

Full time nursing-attendant, Khushbu Nautiyal, was stabbed 36 times on her neck with two different kinds of sharp devices. The elderly couple, Vishnu Mathur,79, and Shashi Mathur,75, that she looked after, were also stabbed in their necks with similar devices.

The bodies were found in the elderly couple’s house in Vasant Vihar on Sunday and were sent for post-mortem A team of forensic experts revisited the crime scene on monday.

A senior police officer said, “While Vishnu’s injury appeared to be caused by the ice-pick, the injury Shashi sustained suggested that the killer may have used a pointed object, like a screwdriver, which did not have a sharp edge. The same weapons were used to kill Nautiyal also.”

The senior officer involved in the investigation claimed,“ Except the area where the nursing attendant’s body was lying on her stomach, the entire floor in the dining room was properly cleaned in a bid to wipe out fingerprints and shoe marks. We did find some chance prints from a plastic box containing medicines and other items in the room. The items have been sent to the forensics lab.”

Furthermore, four mobile phones, two of the nursing attendant’s and one each of the elderly couple, were found missing and were switched off between 1.30am and 1.45am on Sunday. The call records are being analyzed by the police. They suspect a large number of mobile conversations happened between the perpetrator and the deceased over Whatsapp to avoid tracing of calls.

The investigating team has questioned over 50 different people associated with the victims, including neighbours and Nautiyal’s friend.

The elderly couple were the main victims in the case while the attending nurse was killed to avoid any probable witnesses.
