Three rules of eating right according to Ayurveda

Date:

Food is one of the most important elements for us to survive but sometimes we don’t eat in a correct and healthy manner. At times, we fall sick due to change in season and indigestion. According to renowned nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, the right manner to eat lies in our legacy and heritage.
Here are three rules of eating in a healthy manner according to Ayurveda as advised by Rujuta Diwekar-
1. Posture
Sitting cross-legged, or in ‘sukhasana’, on the floor is the best for our joints. Sitting in this position aligns your spine, back muscles engage themselves and the pelvic joints are open. This is also the most preferred position for meditation and prayer and people in India usually consume food sitting crossed leg.
This posture directs the flow of blood to the stomach and improves digestion and the posture also results in strong muscles.
2. Switch off all the screens
The gadgets should be off while eating, you need to eat in peace and focus on food. Watching something or being on the phone distracts you and there are many other ill-effects. A five- year long study reveals a few things about eating while binge watching.
As per the study, children who watch TV while eating tend to demand and consume more sugary beverages, which increases their health risks in future.
Girls also tend to develop a negative body issue and image when they watch impressionable things on television while eating.
Eating alone increases family dysfunction while eating with family strengthens the bond between everyone.
3. Use all your senses, enjoy the food
When you eat, then you don’t need to engage in another activity. Try and eat with your hands, smell the food, chew slowly and many times over and enjoy the taste. Use all your senses and let your body, mind and tongue enjoy the food.
