These pictures were not taken after cyclone ‘Fani’; here’s the fact check

After cyclone Fani hit Odisha’s Puri district on Friday, social media has been flooded with pictures showing RSS activists engaged in the rescue operation.

The caption reads- ओडिशा में तूफ़ान आने के बाद कोई पहुचा हो मदद के लिए या नही लेकिन Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) के लोग जरूर पहुच गए।
मुझे खुद पर गर्व है कि मैं RSS की विचारधारा से जुड़ा हूं।

(Translation- After the storm in Odisha, no one reached for help, but the people of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have reached. I am proud of myself that I am associated with RSS ideology. )

On the time of filing, the post had more than 15,000 shares.

When NewsMobile fact-check team put the pictures through Reverse Image Search, we found that the pictures were old.

The pictures in the former posts are taken after ‘Titli’ cyclone which hit Andhra Pradesh in 2018.

We found that the pictures were taken in 2005 in Idukki, Kerala when the region received heavy rainfall that led to a major landslide.

The above information proves that the pictures that are being circulated are old.
