NO! Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru did not attend an RSS shakha meeting; Here’s the fact check

Date:

A picture of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in shorts is going viral with a claim that he is attending an RSS meeting in the uniform

“बहोत मुश्किल से फोटो मिला है ये नेहरूजी RSS की शाखा में खड़े है ! अब बता भी दो की क्या नेहरू भी भगवाआतंकी थे ? ” the text on the post read.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile team fact-checked the viral post, we found that this post is a hoax.

We found this picture, where the caption in the picture can be seen more clearly. On further research, we found out that the text is written in Marathi. It read, “: पं जवाहरलाल नेहरू आणि इतर नैते…१९३९ साली उतर प्रदेशयातील नैनी येथील”

(Translation – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru with other leaders in 1939 in Naini Uttar Pradesh)

The other thing we noticed in the picture is the cap. In the picture, Nehru is wearing a white cap.

RSS introduced its uniform in 1925 that comprised of Khaki shirt and shorts with black cap and military- style, ankle length black boots. The black cap is still a part of their uniform.

This proves that he is not wearing an RSS uniform.

On further investigation, we found out that Nehru was attending a session of the Seva Dal.  In 1924, Seva Dal was established as the Hindustan Seva Mandal under Pt Nehru.

This proves that the viral post is a hoax and should not be shared further.
