Bharti Airtel Ltd, whose digital content includes music streaming app Wynk Music and video streaming app Airtel TV, launched Airtel Books on Wednesday, featuring a collection of e-books for smartphone users.
The launch is aimed at upgrading Airtel’s subscribers to higher tariff plans and retaining them on its network in this hyper-competitive wireless services market where it battles rivals Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd and Vodafone Idea Ltd.
Available to both Airtel and non-Airtel customers in iOS and Android, Airtel Books will initially offer over 70,000 titles from leading Indian and international authors.
Airtel said that it plans to rapidly expand its e-books collection by partnering with leading publishers as well as leveraging its strategic partnership with Juggernaut Books.
Airtel is offering a complimentary 30-day trial to Airtel Books users to experience the mobile app on smartphones. After that, customers can avail the subscription service – Reader’s Club – priced at Rs 129 for 6 months and Rs 199 for 12 months. Customers can also buy books on a per book basis. The price will depend on the price of the book.
