Jaipur’s Gandhi Nagar railway station is India’s first and only major railway station to be run completely by women – from ticket checker to station manager.
The station has a footfall of more than 7,000 passengers each day and it is a major railway station where more than 50 trains pass through.

Chief Public Relation Officer of the zone Tarun Jain said, “The Gandhi Nagar railway station in the Pink city links major train routes including Jaipur-Delhi.”

A staff of 40 women are working at the station performing roles such as chief reservation supervisor, ticket checker, station manager, and reservation clerk. It has also been ensured that women members from the railway protection force are deployed in the station.

They have already started making more profits at the station. The women detained around 520 people who were travelling without a ticket in a month, while the men had earlier only caught 64 previously. The commuters have also said to have experienced better services and cleaner space.

Sanitary napkin vending machines have also been installed at the station to make it women-friendly. CCTV cameras have been installed for their security and real-time monitoring.
