Tips to help you be more productive and finish work on time

Date:

In a stressful working environment, sometimes you end up extending your shift and getting tied up in the office to finish work. The stretch of being at work for longer hours can lead you to miss out on important events and disrupt plans. This takes a toll on your mind and body and eventually effects the work productivity at work because you are stressed and tired.

Craig Jarrow, the author of Time Management Ninja, aims to help individuals and companies reclaim their time. “Just like getting out the door at home on time, it takes some planning and a planned action. But, it can be done. You can have a life after the office,” Jarrow says.

Here are a few tips to help you finish your work on time and be more productive

  1. Plan in advance

The idea is to set up a timeline of the day’s schedule and plan your work events around it. You can work backward to figure out how much time do you need for your meetings and work and you can eventually try and meet your goal by breaking things down.

Keep a weekly or a daily planner of the events and stick to them.

2. Prioritize

The crucial work events and important meetings should be planned first thing in the morning or in the first half of the day so you are more relaxed towards the end of the day. Your mind is also fresh in the morning to handle important and tough tasks right away.

3. Delegate

Trying to do everything on your own will lead to issues with time management. The skill to designate work is acquired and is the surest way to effectively finish tasks as per expertise.

4. Give yourself 25 mins to wrap up

If your aim is to leave by 7, you should start wrapping up atleast 25 minutes ago and finishing your tasks for the day. As if you delay the process, packing up takes longer and you will end up walking out of work only post your desired time.

5. Set goals and keep a track

It’s perfectly normal for meetings to run long and tasks that are never-ending. Stay on course and do hard stops in case you think your meetings or tasks are spilling over. Prioritizing work and keeping a track also helps.
