Let’s face it, the biggest concern of a working professional these days is managing money. So taking control of your expenditure is one the best ways to save money.

Whether you are loaded or starting out, here are some smart and practical tips for you to save more at the end of the month.

  1. Make a monthly budget and only take out that much cash from the ATM in one go.
  2. Use coupons for ordering food and while online shopping.
  3. Avoid using credit cards, only rely on them for emergencies.
  4. Track your spending on a weekly basis and get more organized with the expenditure.
  5. In the era of online streaming, it is wise to not spend on cable if you are a working professional and hardly get the time to watch television.
  6. Don’t order drinks when you dine out, stick to water as it is also a healthier option.
  7. Make a habit of putting your savings in an FD or investing in mutual funds and so on.
  8. Sell stuff you haven’t used in the last 6 months online.
  9. Rent or borrow books instead of buying new ones. You can also take part in a book exchange program.
  10. Shop during the sale and when it is offseason to get better and cheaper deals.
  11. Make homemade and creative gifts instead of buying expensive gifts.
  12. Indulge in DIY’s and homemade substitutes of products
  13. Cook at home more often instead of eating out.
  14. Practice minimalism for a while as its easier to get your life in order and remove the clutter from your space and mind.
  15. Indulge in fun activities that can be done for free or at a low cost like hanging out with friends at home instead of going to a fancy restaurant, hiking, cycling, a picnic by the lake.
  16. Grow your own food and try and make your own snacks or stick to fruits.
  17. Save your pennies and petty cash.
  18. Use public transport or just carpool as it will help save a lot of money that would be spending if you’re driving and it’s better for the environment.
  19. Buy groceries and food in bulk that can be used for the week.
  20. While going out for a run or walk, just carry a small amount of cash so it would restrict your expenditure instead of carrying your entire wallet with cash and cards.
