Pakistan bans Hafiz Saeed’s JuD and its charity arm FIF

Date:

The Imran Khan-led government in Pakistan on Thursday banned 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed-led Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) and its charity wing Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation, a spokesperson of the Interior Ministry said.

It comes in the wake of growing international pressure on Pakistan to act against terror groups following the Pulwama terror attack in the Kashmir valley in which more than 40 CRPF soldiers were killed and several were injured.

Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed the responsibility of the Pulwama suicide attack.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly accused Pakistan of providing “safe haven” to terrorists and asked Islamabad to rein in the terror groups operating from its soil. Iran and Afghanistan also accuse Pakistan of providing support to terror groups to carry out attacks in the neighbouring countries.

Last week, Iran asked Pakistan to crack down on militants who killed 27 of its Revolutionary Guards in an attack near the border.
