Don’t believe this WhatsApp forward; It’s fake

Date:

A text message is going viral, asking WhatsApp users to change their display pictures to prevent misuse by ISIS.

The message is attributed to the Delhi commissioner A.K. Mittal(IPS).

It reads –

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Hi Friends

FACT CHECK

Since the message claimed to be from the Delhi Commissioner, we first looked for the current police commissioner of Delhi.

However, Amulya Patnaik is the commissioner currently who took charge in 2017.

Then we searched for the former commissioners and AK Mittal was not on the list.

When we tried calling the number, it was switched off. The TrueCaller application showed us that the number belonged to ‘Arshad Ali.’

Moreover, we did not find reports that can prove the authenticity of the message. Also, the user can choose to hide his/her display pictures in WhatsApp privacy setting.

Our Fact Check proves two things. First, the WhatsApp message is fake but the name of the sender is also wrong.

If you want to fact-check any story, WhatsApp it now on +91 88268 00707
