A great film not only invokes emotions but also manages to transport us into a different fictional world of the characters, locations and time. Films have a great impact on the minds of the audiences and also influence people to a great extent. The impact created is based on many factors and the set/location is one such factor. YRF has been synonymous with Swiss locations and lovely song and dance sequences. The films single-handedly managed to promote tourism in Switzerland back in the 1980s and 1990s as the audience were rushing off to book tickets for the exotic locations they see in the films. The idea caught upon so much so that Switzerland government honoured the late filmmaker by unveiling his statue in Interlaken, Switzerland in 2016.

Goa tourism and road trips boomed when the film Dil Chahta Hai released with a whole subplot dedicated to the three friends taking a road trip to Goa for a short vacation. Here are some locations made famous by renowned films which you can add on your travel list –

  1. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

The trend of going on bachelor trips picked up after the fun life good drama Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. ZNMD gave us new travel goals exploring the other part of Europe, Spain giving us travel goals. ZNMD is about three friends who have grown apart over time meet for a bachelor trip to Spain when one of the friends is getting hitched, sparking a journey of a lifetime and overcoming their fears.

The tourism of Spain flourished post the release and the success of the feel-good film.

2. Before Sunrise (1995)

Based on travel and romance, two strangers meet on a train from Budapest to Vienna, decide to get off together at Vienna and explore the city. They only have a night together after which their journeys will take them to different paths and they end up falling love with each other and making the audiences fall for Vienna. The Richard Linklater film was beautifully shot as the lead actors walk around to places – the town, the funky music shop and the Danube canal where a homeless man writes a poem about a ‘Milkshake.’ All of this has been captured well in the film making it a must-see destination in Europe.

3. La La Land (2016)

The Oscar award-winning La La Land depicts the love story of an aspiring actress and a jazz pianist attempting to make their careers in Los Angeles. LA became a backdrop for this musical love stories with the dance numbers being shot in Griffith Park, the sequences of the cafe, the lead actors walking about just breaking into a dance in the city. Other prominent places that are included in the film are Grand Central market and Colorado Street Bridge.

4. Harry Potter series (2001-2011)

The Harry Potter series of 8 films was shot all across UK and London where people are able to get guided tours of the famous locations with props from the famous series. Places like the Kings Cross Station, The Millennium Bridge, Great Scotland Yard, Leadenhall market have become the tourist destination for ‘potter-heads’ for tours and to make memories.

5. Da Vinci Code (2006)

The mystery thriller Da Vinci Code based on a book by Dan Brown covered the landmarks in France, England and Scotland extensively covering spots like The Louvre, Westminister Abbey, St James Park, Saint Sulpice which has now turned into a proper guided tour and a book trail. There are guided tours in Paris to explore the location and sites of the film while there are facts and experiences unveiled including the museums and churches. So when in Paris, this would be a good option to explore.
