Upping the game for Election2019, the Congress on Wednesday announced the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi as the Congress General Secretary marking her formal entry into politics.
According to a Congress press release, Priyanka will oversee UP East for the Lok Sabha elections. The total number of Lok Sabha seats from UP is 80, with key constituencies like Varanasi, Amethi and Rae Bareilly falling in east Uttar Pradesh.
While the opposition may accuse the Congress of expanding the dynasty insiders say in an election which is a do or die battle Priyanka’s entry will help the grand old party.
As a campaigner in the past, she had a good emotional connection with the voters and it remains to be seen if this translates into votes for the Congress.
