SP-BSP come together after 26 years for Lok Sabha polls; to contest on 38 seats each in UP

Date:

Lucknow: In an awaited presser, BSP supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday announced their alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

“We(BSP-SP) have decided to contest upcoming Lok Sabha elections together, this will lead to a new political revolution in the country,” Mayawati said.

BSP will contest on 38 seats, SP on 38 seats. Two Lok Sabha seats we have left for other parties and Amethi and Rae Bareli have been left for Congress

“Be it BJP or Congress, whoever rules, their policies are mostly the same. For example, we are seeing how both indulged in corruption in defence deals. Congress imposed declared emergency, today there is undeclared emergency,” Mayawati added.

The meeting of SP and BSP, who have been in talks for weeks, in Delhi last week fuelled talks over reports that the two had decided on a ‘gathbandhan’.

Setting the tone in Uttar Pradesh ahead for the Lok Sabha elections, Yadav attacked the BJP for not addressing farmers issue and said that his party will formulate the best model for them.

“BJP people will not understand the problems of farmers. There can be no development until farmers are empowered, Farmers can only be helped by the government, no other industry can help them,” he said.

He also implored the farmers to look past caste and creed and bring to power those who will work for them.

“If we will come to power, we will work to create the best model for farmers. Farmers need ample remuneration for their work. Farmers must forget caste and creed alliance and vote for those who work for them. If you will miss this time voting for the right people, then you will have to regret for the next five years. Please take care this time,” he said.

He also accused the BJP of not fulfilling their promise to protect cows.

“Even PM Modi said stop slaughterhouses. People were made to believe that the slaughterhouses belonged to SP. But the fact is these sslaughterhouses belong to BJP. None of the slaughter houses have been closed till date. BJP has spread bitterness. The BJP has fooled people in the name of the cow. Please ask them what they are doing now for cow,” he said.

He also announced his party’s slogan for the Lok Sabha polls – “BJP ka dhokha bolta he”

He also spoke about the crucial press conference on Saturday with his coalition partner Mayawati.

“Every other alliance left BJP. The BJP lost in Gorakhpur and Phulpur. Tomorrow, I will do a press conference with Mayawatiji. I can’t reveal much now. But I want to assure that every answer will be solved with this alliance. We will work together,” he said.

Rashtriya Lok Dal President Ajit Singh said: “We are a part of the grand alliance, we haven’t discussed seats yet. Mayawati Ji and Akhilesh Ji will decide whether there will be an alliance with Congress or not.”
