BJP has sharpened its attack on the Gandhi family after the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday claimed in a Delhi court that the Agusta Westland alleged middleman Christian Michel has mentioned ‘Mrs Gandhi’ and ‘son of the Italian lady’ during custody.
“Now, when a prominent man, Christian Michel who indulges in corruption, one can see Congress’ nervousness,” BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said on Sunday.
“The subject of corruption (in Agusta Westland case) started in Italian courts. So, for India, this case was not a political issue but a matter of national security,” he said.
In response to Congress’ claim that the government was using probe agencies to malign the Gandhi family, he said, “Who handover the case to the CBI in the first place? Your government. ”
“For last 30- 32 years, whenever a foreign man’s name comes in connection with the corruption inside India, whether he is Ottavio Quattrocchi, Christian Michel, Guido Haschke, why is he in some way linked to the first family of Congress,” he questioned in a sharp attack on Congress party.
On Saturday, Union ministers Prakash Javadekar and Ravi Shankar Prasad also hit out at Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

“The ED’s disclosure in the court has made it clear that truth can no longer be suppressed. The truth about the Congress and Sonia Gandhi and Rahul is coming out before the people. The people will give the Congress a befitting reply,” Javadekar had said.
Javadekar said the UPA government “looted” the county and also compromised with the national security.
Michel was arrested in the UAE and extradited to India on December 4. He was arrested by the ED on December 22.
