A doctor in Ahmadabad, Gujarat has been arrested for allegedly performing a delivery in the Botad District in a drunk state yesterday causing the death of both mother and baby.
Dr. PJ Lakhani conducted the delivery of Kaminiben Chanchiya in the government-run Sonawala Hospital. The patient was admitted on Monday night.
The girl died immediately after the delivery and sometime after that, the mother also breathed her last after asking for justice on account of the doctor’s negligence.

During investigations, Harshad Mehta, the Botad Superintendent of Police reported that the doctor was allegedly drunk while on duty and was booked under the Prohibition Act and arrested.
The woman’s body was also sent to the Bhavnagar Civil Hospital for post mortem. The autopsy report of the examination will be sent to a committee which is headed by the civil surgeon who will examine and confirm the cause of the death.
Since Lakhani is a Class II official of the hospital, his superiors and the District Development Officer have been intimated of his arrest.
